Advanced 3D Printing Workshop

Workshop Description

During this course students will assemble and configure a FFF (fused filament fabrication) 3D printer. The workshop develops familiarity and provides technical knowledge of the assembly of this electro-mechanical system.

Advanced Topic: Networked printing through an embedded computer

A Raspberry Pi 2, a small computer, will be integrated into the 3D printer to provide a network accessible controller. This embedded computer acts as a server for the ‘Octoprint’ web-app. Users may upload printer-readable files to this web-app and start a print or monitor its progress. Students will learn to install and configure Octoprint and related software through the command line interface.

Printing Technique

Students will review how to calibrate a printer and setup a successful print.

Printer Model

Our derivative model of the Michigan Tech Open Sustainability Technology Lab, ‘MOST’, Delta Printer will be built in this workshop. All plans and part lists are available at MOST Delta Github under the GNU General Public License.
